My friend's Windows 8 works successfully.
Why your Infinity doesn't work in your Windows 8? Because you haven't installed DirectX on your computer.

To my knowledge, Infinity has NEVER required DirectX. I'm not sure what to suggest thefighter. There is another moderator who has more technical knowledge. I am sure she will comment here and hopefully give you some helpful options.

i recently installed windows 8 (final, i never tried any preview or whatever the betas were called) and ricochet infinity isnt working anymore, every try 2 start it ends in an immediate error-msg (but no specification of reasons).
experimenting with compatibility-modes didnt lead 2 any other results.
i really miss my favorite game.

Windows 8 Kills online-downloadable games, other than the one in the store package it's self.

But other than that, It also kills CD gaming, because of the new compatibility to the touch screen/dragable features.

Can you explain this a little more? What are "other versions" - other games in general, or other Ricochet games? What mouse problems are you having?

Do you have other games that play okay in Windows 8?

Are your audio and video drivers up to date?

What happens when you try to play Ricochet on Windows 8? Do you get an error message? What does it say?

Could you please try downloading the free trial version of some other games Reflexive made and see if they have similar problems. It would be helpful to know if this problem is specific to Ricochet Infinity. You could try Ricochet Lost Worlds, Big Kahuna Reef or Airport Mani. Download them from your favorite downloadable games store such as Big Fish, Amazon, GameHouse or wherever you normally download games like this.

Ricochet does use Direct X but it doesn't require any special version of Direct X. Since Windows XP and newer (or maybe even earlier) windows has had some version of Direct X built in. Ricochet uses that Direct X that is built into Windows.

I have the most updated graphic drivers (nVidia GTX 460) and Windows updates.
in Windows 7 I had no issue at all.

BTW, James, you shoud publish these fantastic games to the official Windows Store, you'll get more exposure and more money ;)

Where did you download these games from? I've just installed Win 8 and would like to see if I can reproduce your issues, but I want to make sure I get them from the same place.

I also tried to download the latest trial version from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/swvgdtt/order/handle-trial.html/ref=dsvrt_dp_free_trial?ie=UTF8&asin=B001KC034K, and it's the same.

@rico-rocker2, they cannot be games downloaded from Reflexive, as Windows 8 came about long after Reflexive's download/activation servers were disabled. My question was to determine whether the game in question is the Amazon version, or downloaded elsewhere (like BFG, Gamehouse, etc).

@Licantrop0, I'm still waiting for the Amazon version to download - it's been that long, I'm not sure it's actually going to. I just tried the BFG version and I got an access violation. At this stage, I'm not even able to get to the point where you're having your issues. At a guess though, I'd suspect the problem is with Windows 8 - still very new and there are always glitches. I don't usually consider an OS stable until there's at least a first service pack.

You might consider contacting Amazon and letting them know about the problem. If nothing else, they probably have people who have a lot more experience with Windows 8 and might be able to point you in the right direction.

My experience as a customer service and operations manager in Telecom (long, long ago) was that companies look to save a few bucks on development by rushing new software out the door and relying on customers to do the kind of comprehensive quality testing they don't want to pay the money to do. I agree completely with your assessment. MS has been known to put bad code out there, and since their offshore service reps are programmed to act as if the trouble has to be with the user's computer they will succeed in obtaining valuable test data from those users who fall for their suggested "fixes". I presume this will speed up and lessen the cost of their subsequent patches.

Windows 8 was extensively tested. It's stable and fast. And the market share is rapidly growing. You should test it too before speaking. This is a free 90-days trial: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcen ... 54510.aspx
The first developer beta of Windows 8 was released over an year ago, time since *ANY* serious SW Developer should had tested their software on this OS (they release public betas for a reason...)
If the ricochet developers are lazy doesn't want to test their software on a new Windows OS before, I don't know what to do. I have issue on different pcs with different graphics cards, and these are the only games I have issue with.
Oh, and BTW, on Amazon there isn't specified even the Windows 7 compatibility.
