Do any of our Ricochet fans have access to a Mac? Do you have a Mac friend you can join your Ricochet addiction?

If you didn't already notice, we've released Ricochet Lost Worlds for Mac OS X! We've also actually reposted it with a minor fix to correct a problem where only the account used when installing the game could play it.

We sure hope you enjoy RLW!

PostPosted: Thu Dec 15, 2005 3:43 am
A few days after I bought the Mac version of Ricochet Lost Worlds, an arrow pointer appears all the time on the screen while playing the game. I have trashed the game and downloaded a new one, but the arrow remains near the center of the game window. Any idea what's causing this?

You're playing the game in a window, rather than full-screen, I take it? This isn't something I've seen, but here's something to try to see if it helps:

Pause the game by pressing the Escape key, then move the mouse outside the game window, click on the desktop, then move the mouse back inside the game window and click on it. Then hit Escape again to resume the game. Does the system mouse cursor disappear at that point?

I bought RLW a few days ago and have been enjoying it. Seemingly randomly, though, it crashes to the desktop with no error messages or other warnings. There are no obvious triggers for the crashes and I don't have anything running in the background. It doesn't happen every time I play, but often enough to be annoying. I'm using a PowerBook G4 with Mac OS 10.4.3 and 512 mb of memory. Any ideas?

Can you run the Console program (it's in the Utilities folder) after Ricochet crashes and let me know if there's any output from "ricochet-bin" in there? That would help me track down the problem.

Thanks!

I'll try that next time it crashes and let you know what it says.

Thanks,

Well, it crashed again on Round 31 (I'd started from Round 1). I don't see anything in the console log specifically associated with ricochet-bin. These were the only lines:

Source/RequiredCode/Vector2D.inl:187: failed assertion `Length != 0.f'
Source/RequiredCode/MemoryPool.cpp:169: failed assertion `m_UsedCount > 0'

That's exactly the information I need. I'll take a look and see if I can figure out the problem.

Thanks!

It crashed today on Round 72(?) Fireworks. This time the line in the console log was:

Source/CommonCode/LayeredSprite.cpp:70: failed assertion `NewFrame >= 0.f && NewFrame <= 1.f'

Hope this helps,

Lucy

RLW crashed a couple more times today on Rounds in the 80s. The lines in the console log were:

Source/RequiredCode/GameBase.cpp:765: failed assertion `NumSecondsPassedSinceLastUpdateInternal >= 0.0f'
Source/CommonCode/LayeredSprite.cpp:70: failed assertion `NewFrame >= 0.f && NewFrame <= 1.f'

Okay, I know what the problem is now, that's causing this crash. I don't yet know how long it will take to get fixed and tested so we can release it. I haven't even actually checked with the boss yet to see if it's all right to switch gears back to Ricochet from what I'm working on right now to address this problem. :)

I appreciate all the info you guys have provided, and I'll do what I can to get an updated done as soon as I can.

That's great, Eric. I'm glad you were able to figure out the problem. It would be wonderful if you were able to fix it soon. It's rather frustrating to be in the middle of a great game and have it crash. I'd like to be able to recommend the game to my friends, but don't feel like I can until it's fixed.
