New laptop, w/windows 7. Downloaded Amazon Game, and purchased Ricochet. Download OK, but cannot get Ricochet to start. Uninstalled everything, re-installed OK. Now when I start R, nothing happens. I went through Troubleshooting tool, and got message "Incompatible Application". Is the Amazon version OK for Windows 7? Initial load brought up several questions from my ZoneAlarm, and I answered all yes, and to start it up...any ideas? --also now 64 bit? Downloaded into the 32bit library, so I assumed it knew.....

UPDATE: Refund from Amazon...website showed Windows XP, but not "7". When can we play Ricochet on Windows 7?

That's odd that it didn't work with Windows 7. There have been plenty of others who have Windows 7 and it worked for them. Hopefully one of the others can provide some help on that. I use XP so don't know.

I installed RI before Amazon took over distribution. At the time, I was still using XP. When I switched to 7, RI didn't miss a beat and is still functioning properly -- and I'm NOT using compatibility mode, at least not that I'm aware of. I certainly didn't set it to that. You might try that if you continue to have problems.

But did you get it from Amazon?

Lots of people can run the game in Windows 7, but the version in question is the one from Amazon, which apparently does not claim to support Windows 7.

My Amazon version works just fine in Win7 Professional.
However, I didn't have to deal with ZoneAlarm to install it.
Also, it downloaded automatically into the 64-bit library, not the 32-bit.

I'm running the old Reflexive version of RI but I transferred it onto a new laptop running 64-bit Win7 and everything went smooth. I assume you worked through your problem back in 2009 when you couldn't run the game after updating your Zone Alarm security.
( viewtopic.php?f=2&t=15856&start=0 ) Did you save that version of Ricochet and did you try loading that instead of the new version from Amazon? Have you saved your stats.dat file?

I just bought a new computer with Windows 7 Pro. When I tried to reinstall my LW & Infinity games, it would not accept the old codes. So Amazon compted me two new games, but they don't work. Infinity gets a Fatal Error: Could Not Mapandload after installation and LW does absolutely nothing after installation. Amazon looked at everything and said it's not my system, so it has to be the software. Anybody got an idea of what to do now? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, circusmouse

Have you tried uninstalling, redownloading, and reinstalling? I don't know if it'll make a difference, but you could also try editing the properties of both exe files and setting them to run as administrator and even (though I don't think it'll make a difference) run in XP Compatible mode. I'd redownload and reinstall first though.

Right-click on your shortcut, choose Open File Location. Find the .exe file, right-click and choose Properties. In the Compatibility tab, there's a drop-down that will have something like "Run in XP (SP3) Compatible mode". I think the first tab is the one that has "Run as administrator".

Sorry, I have no other suggestions. I run these games on Windows 7 (Ultimate) and I'm sure there are a lot of others here who have various forms of Windows 7. It would almost have to be something to do with the specific hardware or other software you're running ... some antivirus or malware stopping it and not telling you about it, maybe?

Oh - have you gone to Windows Update and grabbed the latest and greatest of everything? Also check the home sites of the manufacturers of your audio and video cards, as they might have something more recent than what Microsoft offers.

OK, I finally solved the problem. I went to Shockwave and purchased Ricochet Infinity from them and it installed perfectly. My stats.dat was no good though, so I,ll have to start over. But, I enjoy playing anyway. I had gone all the way to the max level and had about 150.000 points. I notified Amazon that the problem was with their download. circusmouse
